The biodiversity problem is analyzed which is currently regarded as number one in importance, complexity and urgency. However, despite its decisive role for the future of humanity, under current conditions in politics, ideology, economics and morality it cannot be solved. Major risks are multinational corporations ignoring demands of sustainable development important for biosphere in pursuit of economic prosperity on a global scale. S. Freud explained that society culture is based on two key points: possession of natural resources and individual desires without restriction.
It is emphasized that the basic problem is to change current ideology, politics, economics and to refuse divison of the countries into three groups. Materia does not exist without a form as any subject is self-realizing through its form. If self-realization is based not on natural laws but on interests of certain social groups, it will cause death of 2-3 billion people. Crucial role in solving the problem belong to scientists. The suggested scheme for the dead end development of the world community had negative impact upon the culture and science progress. Unfortunately, this process speeds up and involves growing number of countries.

M.V. Velychko, V.I. Stefanik, I.I. Chorney, V.V. Budzhak THE PROCESS OF SPECIATION BY POLYPLOIDY AS A PATHWAY FOR ADAPTATION OF PLANTS
The role of polyploidy in the evolution of flowering plants is described. The species genesis in vascular plants capable of evolutionary transformations by means of polyploidization is analysed. The cyclic scheme for the genesis of polyploid taxa is proposed. The main point is that in the process of speciation   the species aggregates (complexes) able to generate polyploid plants probably undergo a series of ploidy changes including, due to karyotype features, the phenomenon of reproductive isolation (apomyxis). As a result, a new diploid species complex is originated by diploidization of a polyploid.

Vinnikova MYCOBIOTA AND PHYTOEDAPHON SPECIES DIVERSITY IN VARIOUS PHYTOCOENOSES ON CRETACEOUS CHALK OUTCROPS OF THE VOLCHYA RIVER VALLEY (KHARKIV REGION) It is concluded that trees have positive effect on species diversity of micromycetes on calcareous soils. Numerous fungal species were isolated both from litter and soil layers. Number of algae species is found to decline under Pirus trees and increase in the litter in Prunus (thorn) plantations. Changes in algae species diversity in arboreous plots were opposite to that of fungi. Maximum similarity between micromycetes species composition was shown for three closest plots with grass cover, while for algae it was observed in two plots under Pirus plantations. In total, similarity of the fungal species composition depended on  distance between the studied plots and type of phytocoenoses, whereas for algae species composition only the latter factor was important.   O.Yu.    І.О. Bednarska, О.О. ОrlovFESTUCA MACUTRENSIS ZAPAІ. IN THE FLORA OF CENTRAL POLISSYA. 1. ANATOMICAL AND MORFOLOGICAL DIFFERENTIATION
Festuca macutrensis was found for the first time in the flora of the Central Polissya. Based on analysis of 12 morphological and 16 anatomical characters of the leaf blade differentiation within 8 populations of this species from Zhytomyr environs was studied. They were compared with those in populations from Podillya, the main part of the species range including locus classicus. Variability of the diagnostic species characters was studied in natural and disturbed environment. It was determined that Zhytomyr populations have different ecological and morphological features and they can be considered as a peculiar ecological and geographical race of the species.
A.Ya. Didukh ONTO-MORPHOGENESIS PECULIARITIES OF TRAPA NATANS L. (TRAPACEAE)
Results of the onto-morphogenesis studies of Trapa natans L. under conditions of greenhouses and open ground are provided. A full cycle of ontognesis takes one year and includes 4 periods and 11 age stages. In greenhouses ontogenesis lasts 8–10 months, in open ground — 7–8 months. Based on histoanatomical research of the root system and underwater string-like organs (stem roots), three major types of roots have been recognized for the first time. Distinctive characteristics of these types of roots have been revealed. It was established that besides gynoecium, the receptacle and sepals are also involved in the fruit formation. The fruit therefore is not a nut as it was previously assumed and should be defined as a false nut.
A.R. NikiforovTHE ELEMENTARY SHOOT AND SEASONAL DEVELOPMENT OF SILENE JAILENSIS (CARYOPHYLLACEAE), A RELIC ENDEMIC PLANT OF THE MOUNTAIN CRIMEA
Peculiarities of the elementary shoot development of Silene jailensis depending on thermal conditions were studied. The development cycle of elementary shoots of the plants ex situ in Southern Crimea lasts from spring to autumn. In situ the elementary shoots grow during two seasons: the first stage takes place in summer and autumn of the previous year when zone of shoot renewal is formed, and the final stage continues from spring of the following year when zone of enrichment with vegetative and generative buds is developed. Some shoots of the plants ex situ have the same cycle. In this case the main vegetative parts of the shoot grow in autumn, and the final vegetative-generative parts develop during spring rise of average day temperature after the winter pause. The revealed potential in the development of elementary shoots in situ shows their adaptability to extreme ecological conditions in cool climate.
A.P. Iljinska, L.M. NytsenkoEMBRYO STRUCTURE OF THE SPECIES OF BRASSICACEAE IN THE FLORA OF UKRAINE
The structure of the embryo of 226 species ofBrassicaceae in the flora of Ukraine was studied. The embryos are attributed to three types and 11 subtypes. The direct embryos with equal cotyledons of the Leavenworthia Torr. species are considered as the third type. Subtypes are allocated on the basis of the distinction between the embryos in form of the cotyledons. Incumbent embryos are very diverse in form of cotyledons which can be plane, conduplicate, sulcate, heterosulcate, spiral, biplicate, involute and sectional. In accumbent ones they are often plane, and only in some species can be foliaceous or convex. Diagnostic, phylogenetic and evolutionary value of the embryo features as well as the factors causing development of the obliquely incumbent embryo are discussed.

V.P. Heluta, K.S. Umanets, V.P. Hayova SPECIES DIFFERENTIATION IN THE MAGNICELLULATAE COMPLEX (PODOSPHAERA, ERYSIPHALES) WITHIN THE SPECIMENS COLLECTED IN UKRAINE
Seven species of Podosphaera sect. Sphaerotheca subsect. Magnicellulatae are recorded in Ukraine. However, Podosphaera delphinii, P. helianthemi and P. plantaginis, close to P. fusca s. str., have unclear status and  require molecular phylogenetic analyses. Samples of Podosphaerafrom Impatiens noli-tangere with largechasmothecia and small oculi of the asci belong to P. balsaminae. Podosphaera fuliginea has smallchasmothecia and asci with rather large oculi. In Ukraine P. fusca s. str. is known parasitizing plants of Asteraceae and Scrophulariaceae s. str., while P. xanthii was registered on hosts of Asteraceae, Cucurbitaceae, Solanaceae, and Verbenaceae. Obligate relationships of P. fusca s. str. and P. xanthii with specific host genera and tribes were established. None of the host genera infected by both fungi was observed. The paper provides a special table for distinguishing P. fusca s. str. and P. xanthii. Within Asteraceae, exclusively species of two subfamilies, Asteroideae and Cichorioideae, are infected by these fungi. They were not recorded in Ukraine on the hosts from the less advanced subfamilies, Mutisioideae and Carduoideae. P. fusca s. str. occurs almost exclusively on plants of the subfamily Cichorioidea, excepting one case, while representatives of Asteroideae can be infected by both species. No hiatus between P. fusca s. str. and P. xanthii on hosts of Orobanchaceae is evident indicating that species differentiation in Podosphaera is likely not to have been completed. Distribution of P. fusca s. str. and P. xanthii by host genera in Ukraine is consistent with the molecular data obtained by Japanese mycologists mainly on the East Asian material. It is suggested that enlargement of ascus oculus may have occured in the genus Podosphaera many times in different phylogenetic lineages. Molecular phylogenetic study of P. fusca s. l. with extensive involvement of European material is required.

G.O. KlimenkoTHE ONTOGENETIC STRUCTURE OF RARE PLANT COENOPOPULATIONS IN THE NATIONAL NATURE PARK "DESNYANSKO-STAROGUTSKY"
The ontogenetic structure of coenopopulations for seven species of rare plants in the National Nature Park "Desnyansko-Starogutsky" is analysed. All selected plant species grow in different phytocoenotic conditions. The majority of rare plant coenopopulations belong to a category of young, incomplete ones, with prevalence of vegetative plants. The coenopopulations of Circea аlpinаand Pulsatillapatens are shown to be persistent within the Park. These results are associated with the succession status of the forest on the studied area.

Z.M. TsymbalyukPOLLEN MORPHOLOGY OF THE GENUS LAGOTIS GAERTN. FROM THE VIEW POINT OF ITS TAXONOMIC PLACEMENT
Pollen grains of 6 species of genera Lagotis, Globularia и Wulfenia were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. Foveolate, spinulose-foveolate, spinulose-microreticulate and reticulate types of sculpture are identified for Lagotis pollen grains, while spinulose, spinulose-perforate and spinulose-tuberculate for Globularia, and the reticulate type of sculpture for Wulfenia. The similarity of pollen grains of some Lagotis species to those of Pseudolysimachion by their aperture type and exine sculpture based on comparative palynomorphological analysis is established. It is an evidence that this genus belongs to the tribe Veroniceae. Genera Globularia and Lagotis differ by several pollen grains characters (aperture type, sculpture type, size and form). Globularia pollen grains are similar to those of some species of Veronica, which probably indicates the more distant relations of these taxa. Palynomorphological peculiarities are in accordance with the fact that the family Veronicaceae includes Globulariaceae, as suggested by molecular phylogenetic studies.
